In recent months people seem more comfortable playing free and easy with facts. Dismissing or disregarding them as irrelevant and even denying their truthfulness.
When facts don’t align with our point of view, there’s no denying that the way forward can be difficult. However, I believe that deep down inside we often know when our “facts” are suspect. Admitting we’re wrong is the difficult part after all, most of want to avoid life’s messy bits. It’s not easy changing direction, it can be terrifying and perhaps even life-altering. And so, we continue down the road of ease and familiarity rather than making waves or causing a fuss. We rationalize our position and make excuses - that we’re too old to change, don’t want to get involved, don’t have the time or perhaps that old nugget about “this" being the way things have always been done.
Being human, being alive, living on this planet is nothing short of a miracle. For each of us the odds or being born were surely against us, yet here we are. And, we all have the inherent right to dignity, equality and respect. When people are treated otherwise, be bold and take a closer look at the facts - listen to that knot in your stomach . . . . and move ahead into the messiness of life.
